New York City - Food

How to navigate this guide:

Due to my lack of super advanced website creation, you’ll just have to ctrl+f to take yourself to one of the following sections: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Dessert, Coffee, Bars.

Because New York deserves something special, you can also search by neighborhood: Financial District, Tribeca, Lower East Side, Soho, Little Italy/Noho, East Village, Alphabet City, Chelsea, Flatiron, West Village, Midtown, Hell’s Kitchen, Upper East Side, Upper West Side, Williamsburg,

Alphabet City

Casa Adela

  • Good for: The real deal Puerto Rican restaurant. Family owned since the 70s, this cash-only place is one of those special, old-New York type spots. If memory serves, Adela herself cooked (maybe still does) all the food. Spanish is spoken more than English here, and there are platanos and a green garlic sauce that will rock your world.

  • Tips: Small place, and remember to bring cash! But worth it 110%.

The Dead Rabbit

  • Neighborhood: Financial District

  • Good for: One of the best/most well-known bars in the city. Has a speakeasy type feel (it’s housed in one of the older brick buildings in that area), and specializes in craft cocktails.

  • Tips: it’s usually relatively crowded, especially when Fidi was full with bros wear Patagonia vests looking to blow off some steam after crushing it at their private equity jobs. That being said, the draw for that crowd to this bar is a matter of convenience, not vibe. Still worth going to.
